Just One Track - A Daily Music Blog / 79 posts / feed

FAQ

What is this?

Believe it or not, it’s another music/mp3 blog. I play a music journalist part-time in real life so it’s natural to slide it over to the web. There’s a lot of great music out there and it’s fun to write about it. The plan is daily updates and potentially some monthly goodies so check back in, won’t you?

Why “Just one track?”

Yes. The idea is no repeated bands through the course of a year. There are a few bands I love dearly so I might sneak a few repeats in come 2009 but it’ll be more fun for everyone this way.

Isn’t the whole music blog space a little overcrowded already?

Sure, but there’s always room for one more person on this bandwagon. The horse’ll be fine. Besides this is an extension of the writing I’ve been doing for Pop Culture Press, The Noise and other publications for the last fifteen years. I figure those editors never threw up their hands and said, “That’s it, no more, go back to writing horoscopes or business plans!” So this shouldn’t be a fantastic failure.

What about the legality of MP3 blogs?

Good question. The goal of this site is to share music with friends and strangers. The goal is NOT to take money away from a band or label that is trying to make a living. If you are a member of either and I have posted material of yours I will remove it promptly upon request. I admit I am taking a position of “It’s easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission” but that tends to be the mantra of the Interwebs anyway.

Can you give a few more details on what I’ll see (and hear) here in the coming days, months and year?

Yes, an excellent question! Most good sites have a plan and I’m no different. The posting schedule will be for a new track every day in the early AM and a weekly schedule as follows:

Mondays - Anything Goes

Starting the week off with any old track seems the most natural thing to do. Could be Heavy Metal, could be a spoken word track or little Flamenco to spice up the start of your week.

Tuesdays - New Music Tuesday

The goal is to find something new to the music world and I hope to you too. If you’ve got a band or a musical project and you’d like to have a track appear here, please feel free to contact me!

Wednesdays - Hip-Hop Humpday

Beats and rhymes to help you get past the longest day of the week. I skew to old-school Hip-Hop but I’m as ready to slide in something new that’s worth the listen.

Thursdays - Rarities, Remixes & B-sides

Something from an out of print album, a B-side from an EP, an extended remix or an old vinyl 45 rip will do.

Fridays - Flashbacks

I came of age in the 80’s and 90’s musically but I might be just as tempted to dig out a slice of 50’s doo-wop if the mood strikes.

Saturdays - Country Fried

After spending almost eleven years in Texas I gained a healthy respect for some of the true artists of the genre. None of this newfangled Nashville crap ‘neither. I’m taking Lefty Frizzell more than Brooks and Dunn.

Sundays - Jazz Brunch

Oscar Peterson, Julie London, Lionel Hampton, Julie Christy, Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich and the list goes on. I might take some liberties with the modern tracks but this is an area where the tracks do get better with age.

Adult Swim. It used to be funny, right?

Yes. Yes it did. Don’t cry too much. It’s all on DVD now. Were you up on my roof last night stealing my weather vane?
