You roll like a rock, you roll like a rebel
As a music writer it’s hard to suppress the desire to tear into a song and break down all the aspects of what make it a great song. In one sense it’s like appreciating a great dish - you want to enjoy the food but at the same time you want to know what MAKES it so good so you might recreate it later. Is it the number of ingredients that makes it so good? Is it some arcane combination where the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts? Maybe there’s some cooking method that turns the ordinary into the fantastic?
In the case of The Dream Warriors’ “Wash Your Face In My Sink” I’m comfortable just enjoying the song and not digging too deep. Especially first thing in the morning when I’m hungry. (I really shouldn’t be writing on an empty stomach.)
