Time means nothing

was.jpgI am incredibly impressed with the sound these guys are making now. Their last album, With Love and Squalor, was good but something never clicked for me. There wasn’t as song that showcased every element of the band firing on all cylinders at the same time. Their original drummer left and the band’s new songs are tighter, cleaner and shinier than before. While there are more than a few moments lifted from the New Romantic playbook the songs are amazing. More than a handful of these songs should get radio play and push the duo deeper into the limelight.

In many ways “After Hours” reminds me of “Bring On The Comets” by VHS Or Beta - each band had at least one major label album on their resume and tons of touring to sharpen their skills before going into the studio. Once there, the decisions to layer in those extra keyboards, an overdubbed chorus or an extra guitar effect were done in the name of expanding a song - not covering up a lack of skill or a second-rate song.

I see that the album is already out in the UK, but not due for a release in the US of A until May. This seems odd given how the advance single is on iTunes already. I guess they want to get their touring jones out over there before they come back. Good for them I guess.
