Peri’s Scope
Bill Evans isn’t the jazz pianist I think of first when asked about favorites but I find myself coming back to his albums time and again. His version of “Autumn Leaves” seems to sneak into lots of mixes and for every Erroll Garner disc I listen to I’m just as likely to listen to Evans - especially Portrait In Jazz. Highlighting Evans’ upbeat take on “Autumn Leaves” seemed like an easy choice but with so many standards out there it seems more fitting to go in another direction. Evans doesn’t get enough credit for his original tracks so from Portrait In Jazz here’s “Peri’s Scope.”
