The sun will burn a hole right through your parasol
Thinktree were one of those bands that blew everyone away when they appeared in Boston in the early nineties. Their sound was unique and hard to explain by even their biggest fans. I remember copies of their debut disc being passed around feverishly between friends and people cranking the tunes to hear the noises hidden underneath the songs. The gents in the band were incredibly friendly and easy to talk to after a show (which wasn’t always the case with popular bands in town at the time) so it was hard to not like them. The songs weren’t quite as popular on the college radio circuit, which always surprised me because “Hire A Bird” was on everyone’s play list that I knew - the sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adored it. The band would sign to Caroline records for an album after this and then call it quits. Eight/Thirteen went out of print shortly after it was released but some time ago it popped up on iTunes. I highly recommend it for “The Lovers” and “The Moon.”
