I didn’t learn much when I was young

Gun ShyLike Salem 66, the Screaming Blue Messiahs are high on my list of bands I wish I’d been able to see back in the day. Most reviews of their shows used the phrases “incendiary,” “inventive,” and “even better on stage.” I had to make do with their albums - the outstanding Gun-Shy being the best of the lot. Between “Wild Blue Yonder,” “President Kennedy’s Mile” and “Smash the Marketplace” it’s a classic that hasn’t received anywhere near the respect due. The Messiahs had a minor fling with MTV at the end of their career with the throwaway “I Wanna Be A Flinstone” but Gun-Shy has really aged better.

It’s worth noting what a crime it is that these albums have been allowed to out of print. Countless terrible bands from the eighties and nineties are getting deluxe gate fold reissues and the Screaming Blue Messiahs can’t even get a simple re-pressing? There is no justice in this world.
