Leave the bottle or me behind

loretta_dontcomehome.jpgEvery music style has a few artists that transcend the genre and can be appreciated by everyone. There are plenty of pretenders to the position in country music and I think Loretta Lynn is at the top of the pile. Even if you think Patsy Cline should be at the top of the heap I have no doubt Lynn would have kicked Cline’s all-too-sweet butt in a bar fight to settle who was going to be at the top. Therein lies the reason for her claim to the top - her smiling face masked the hard-nosed nature of her songs, especially early in her career. I find it hard to understand that no artist has picked up a song like “Fist City” and taken it right back to the top of either the Country or Rock charts. She made a few missteps later on her career but managed to rise above it. Really, no one even talks about that album of duets with Conway Twitty unless they’re saying, “… and remember when Conway Twitty’s pact with dark forces culminated with that duet album with Loretta Lynn? Those were some dark days.”

“Don’t Come Home A Drinkin (With Lovin On Your Mind)” is a regular play on the speaker systems around here and figures to be for the next few decades. Enjoy.
